THIS morning 29 New Australian Citizens were welcomed to the Shire of Mundaring at the Annual Australia Day Ceremony and Breakfast. The Ceremony was held at the Shire's Boya Community Centre and in attendance was Cr James Martin - Shire President, Cr Paige McNeil - Deputy President, Shire Councillors and Staff, the Hon. Ken Wyatt AM MP.
Five local residents were also awarded and recognized for their voluntary contribution to the communities in the Shire of Mundaring. They include:
- Kathy Wood, winner of the Inspiration Award, has volunteered in environmental restoration work in the community for over 19 years.
- Vanessa Van der Swaagh was also awarded an Inspiration Award for her dedication to the community throughout the Wooroloo bushfire and ongoing recovery.
- Rodney Powell was awarded a Long Service Award for his contribution to the Hills Night Hockey Association (HNHA) and wider community.
- Willie and Rod Warnock were both awarded an Access Mundaring Award. For 23 years the pair has hosted HorsePower Hills and Riding for the Disabled Hills Group activities on their property, including recreational and therapeutic programs, meetings and celebrations.
